Manansala, Vicente Silva (b. Macabebe, the Philippines, 1910 - 1981) 

Manansala first worked as a movie poster painter. He graduated from the University of Philippines School of Fine Arts in 1930 and worked several jobs until he won the first prize at the National Art Exposition, held by the University of Santo Tomas in 1941. He was awarded several scholarships to study in Canada and Paris.

 

He held his first solo exhibition in 1951 and won the first prize at the Republic Exposition in that same year. From 1951 to 1958, he was a professor at the University of Santo Tomas School of Fine Arts. He died in Makati in 1981. Among his numerous accolades and honors, he was proclaimed National Artist (posthumous) in 1981.
