Chen, Wen-Hsi (b. Guangdong, China, 1906 - 1992)) 

Born in Baigong Village, Guangdong Province, China. He studied at the Xinhua Art Academy, Shanghai and taught in various schools after graduating. Leaving China in 1974 he traveled through Vietnam, Thailand and Malaysia before arriving and settling in Singapore in 1948. He is acclaimed for his studies in oil on Formalism, Cubism and Expressive Abstraction, whilst his ink works incorporate minimalist yet dramatic composition. He was awarded the Meritorious Public Service Gold by the Singapore government in 1992.
