He came to Indonesia ca 1918 as a civil servant to survey the country. He participated in several group exhibitions in Jakarta, Medan, Surabaya between 1918 and 1938. He returned to The Netherlands in 1946. He was a painter, illustrator, and draughtsman of harbor scenes, city views and landscapes.
