Scott Tuason
(b. 1983, California, USA)

Scott "Gutsy" Tuason stands among the leading underwater photographers of our time. With a career spanning over 30 years, he has explored nearly every corner of the globe—from the icy waters of Antarctica to the vibrant reefs of the Galapagos—capturing the underwater world with remarkable precision and patience. Whether he's photographing delicate nudibranchs or imposing sharks, Gutsy’s work reflects an unwavering dedication to revealing the unseen beauty of marine life.
His photographic range extends from sweeping vistas of aquatic ecosystems to intimate, "abstract" close-ups that highlight the ocean’s most intricate forms, textures, and colors. These tightly framed images—sometimes resembling patterns in nature or brushstrokes of paint—evoke a sense of serenity and rhythm, offering viewers a poetic glimpse into the depths. Born in Sydney and raised in Manila, Gutsy took to the sea early, beginning his diving journey at age eight. Introduced to underwater photography by his father during his teenage years, he has since logged over 4,000 dives and captured tens of thousands of images.
Gutsy’s passion lies not just in the thrill of witnessing marine phenomena—like a spawning event in Palau or a shark feeding frenzy in South Africa—but also in sharing these moments to inspire ocean conservation. As he puts it, “My real gratification lies in sharing the beauty of the ocean and igniting the spark in others that will help preserve it.”
