Adolfs studied architecture in The Netherlands. He returned to Indonesia in 1922 and then lived in Surabaya. He held a solo exhibition at Hotel des Indes in Jakarta, 1938. He later traveled extensively in Asia, Europe and Africa, including Japan, Rome and the Middle East. He finally settled in Den Bosch, the Netherlands, and passed away in 1968.
